Trial Summary

Horti-Tech, an independent Dutch trial centre, ran the first Concert Bio cucumber trial at their facility in early 2025. EZ Dee Flexion cucumbers were grown on rockwool, with Overture® A and Overture® B compared side by side against untreated plants and against four legacy biostimulant products already on the market.

Both Overture® products were sprayed directly onto the seed at sowing and onto the young plants at transplant. Harvest was recorded weekly across 13 harvests from February to April 2025. The impact of Overture® was assessed by comparing cumulative yield and total fruit number with untreated plants grown alongside.

Cumulative cucumber yield change relative to untreated plants: Overture A +3.6%, Overture B -0.9%, four legacy microbial products between -0.3% and +2.5%
Figure 2
Cumulative cucumber count change relative to untreated plants: Overture A +1.6%, Overture B +1.7%, four legacy microbial products between -0.7% and +1.9%

Conclusions

Overture® A produced +3.6% more cumulative yield by weight than untreated plants. This was the best yield improvement of any treatment in the trial, ahead of all four existing biostimulant products, none of which improved yield by more than +2.5%.

Overture® A also produced a +1.6% increase in the number of cucumber pieces harvested. Because harvesting was not done to commercial spec, many cucumbers were picked above grower spec, creating this imbalance between extra kilos and extra pieces. Under commercial conditions, more of the weight would come from extra pieces.

Overture® B increased fruit number by +1.7% but did not improve yield by weight in this trial. The bacteria in Overture® A appear to be better adapted to symbiosis with cucumbers than the bacteria in Overture® B.

This was the first of several cucumber trials run with independent trial centres in the Netherlands. See our other case studies for more details.
