Trial Summary

Vertify, a world-leading independent horticultural research organisation, evaluated Overture® A & B under commercial-style tomato production conditions in the Netherlands. EZ Sjaleza tomatoes were grown in a high-wire production system on rockwool.

Overture® A & B were compared with an untreated control under otherwise equivalent crop-management conditions. Crop development, rooting, vigour, flowering, fruit set, chlorophyll, harvested fruit number, fruit weight and Brix were assessed; yield was recorded across 18 harvests over approximately 11 weeks.

"I was positively surprised finding such consistent positive effect on yield. Improved rooting effects of the treatments resulted in significantly better crop vigour at transplant…when flowers developed, indications for improved flowering and fruit set were found on the treated plants.”

Conclusions

Overture® significantly improved rooting density (+7.0%) at transplant and crop vigour in the weeks that followed, for both Overture® A and Overture® B.

That stronger establishment carried into early production, with Overture® B plants harvesting around +10% more fruit over the first harvests, consistent with improved and earlier fruit set.

Across the season Overture® B delivered a +2.9% increase in marketable fruit weight and a +2.4% increase in fruit number over the untreated control, and Overture® A a +1.4% increase in weight and +0.9% in fruit number. Brix was unchanged throughout, so the additional fruit came at no cost to quality.
