A +17.3% tomato yield uplift at Vertify

+17.3%
+16.5%
+24.3%
Trial Summary
Vertify, a world-leading independent horticultural research organisation, evaluated Overture® B under commercial-style tomato production conditions in the Netherlands. Dometica tomatoes grafted on Emperador rootstock were grown in a high-wire production system on rockwool, through the low-light autumn and winter period under supplementary lighting.
This second trial was designed to optimise how Overture® B is applied rather than to repeat the first. Five application regimes, varying dose rate and frequency, were compared with untreated plants under otherwise equivalent crop-management conditions. Crop height, rooting, flowering, fruit set, harvested fruit number, fruit weight and Brix were assessed; yield was recorded across 9 harvests over 8 weeks.

“During the production phase, consistent differences between treatments developed… Yield increase up to +24.3% was measured as result of improved fruitset with treatments.”
Conclusions
How often Overture® B was applied mattered more than how much was applied. Moving from four-weekly to two-weekly application roughly doubled the yield response, from around +7% to between +10.7% and +17.3% depending on dose. The strongest regime delivered a +17.3% increase in marketable fruit weight over untreated plants.
The gain came from more fruit rather than heavier fruit. Two-weekly application at the standard dose produced +16.5% more marketable tomatoes across the season, and the cumulative advantage in fruit number peaked at +24.3% after five harvests, where the treatment effect was strongest.
Brix was unchanged throughout, so the additional fruit came at no cost to quality. Adding an application at seeding gave no further benefit in this trial.
